Menstrual hygiene remains one of the most neglected issues in India. Out of the 355 million women of reproductive age, only 12% use sanitary pads.
While we see progress in cities, a deep divide remains. In rural villages, where poverty bites deepest, nearly 60% of women are still compelled to use cloth during their period. More shockingly, there are still reports of women resorting to unsafe alternatives such as ash, husk, dried leaves, or even newspapers.
The numbers are stark and the consequences are alarming:
These unhygienic practices lead to severe health issues including fungal infections, urinary tract infections, and even life-threatening conditions like cervical cancer. Lack of access to pads also contributes directly to school absenteeism and early dropouts, denying millions of girls their right to education and dignity.
Through Pad-Daan, Pundaan.com is committed to:
Our volunteers will personally visit villages, government schools, and underserved communities to ensure that both access and awareness reach the women who need it most.
We cannot achieve this mission alone. Pad-Daan by Pundaan.com calls upon:
Together, we can ensure that no girl misses school, no woman suffers in silence, and menstrual hygiene becomes a right—not a privilege.
